Daniel was tried at Winchester in Hampshire on the 5th of April 1785 for stealing clothing worth 7 shillings.
Daniel was sentenced to transportation for 7 years and left England with the first fleet on board the Alexander.
His occupation was not recorded.
On the 12th of September, Daniel saved Lydia Munro from being raped by a soldier. In court records Daniel is described as 'a black'.

On 29 February 1789, Daniel received a sentence of death for theft of wine, this was later reprieved.
On 19 August 1789, he was tried for theft of food but was found to be 'not in a state of Mind to be put on his Trial'. However, many prisoners 'gave him credit for the ability with which he had acted his part'.
His partner in crime was Hannah Smith.
