Edward was tried on two charges at Hertford in Hertfordshire on the 2nd of March 1786, for stealing a scarlet cloth cardinal and a sack of wheat worth a total value of 8 shillings.
Edward was sentenced to transportation for 7 years. He left England with the first fleet on board the Alexander.
