George was tried at Gloucester in Gloucestershire on the 24th of March 1784 for stealing livestock, (10 pigs and 1 horse) worth 140 shillings.
George was originally sentenced to death which was commuted to transportation for 7 years. He left England with the first fleet on board the Alexander.

George received a number of floggings during the early years. Once because he told a lie to Major Ross, another for neglect of duty and another for employing convicts without leave.
