Joseph was tried at Gloucester in Gloucestershire on the 23rd of March 1785 for stealing a silver watch worth 40 shillings.
Joseph was sentenced to death which was commuted to transportation for 7 years. He left England with the first fleet on board the Alexander.
Joseph's occupation was not recorded.
On 28 January 1789 Joseph received 12 lashes for being absent from work.
On 28 October 1789 he received 100 lashes for lending shoes he had been given to mend.
