Samuel was tried at Gloucester in Gloucestershire on the 24th of March 1784, for stealing livestock (a sheep) worth 10 shillings.
Samuel was initially sentenced to death which was commuted to transportation for 7 years. He left England with the first fleet on board the Alexander.
