Thomas was tried at Bristol in Gloucestershire on the 29th of April 1783, for shoe buckles with an unknown value.
Thomas was sentenced to transportation for 7 years. He left England with the first fleet on board the Alexander.
His occupation was not recorded.
On 9 February 1789 he was ordered to receive 50 lashes for being absent from work for three days.

On 3 October 1789, Thomas was reprimanded for the theft of a pair of shoes. He received 100 lashes for an attempt to gain access to the possessions of another.
On 16 February 1790 he received 50 lashes for neglect of work.
In May 1790, his weekly ration of flour was cut from three pounds to two for 10 weeks when he stole a cabbage.
