William was tried at Kingston upon Hull in Yorkshire on the 7th of October 1784, for stealing clothing and brandy of unknown value.
William was sentenced to transportation for 7 years. He left England with the first fleet on board the Alexander.
William's occupation was not recorded.
Partner in the original crime was Joseph Robinson.
On 11 May 1788 William received 36 lashes for being absent without leave.
He was also confined in irons for starting a fire on the wreck of Sirius in May 1790 and again in May 1791 for the theft of potatoes.
