One Foot Must Remain On Or Above The Mat.

The Bowling Green, Ditch Bank & Mat.

The bowls green is a level grass playing area bounded by a ditch and bank.
Picture #1 Square greens must have sides 31-40 metres long (minimum 40 metres for international comps).
Rectangular greens are sometimes permitted, with the same minimum and maximum lengths.

The Ditch

The ditch shall be a minimum of 200 mm and a maximum of 380 mm wide and it shall be a minimum of 50 mm and a maximum of 100 mm deep.

Flat Green Bowls - The Bank

The bank shall be a minimum of 230 mm above the level of the green.

Flat Green Bowls - The Mat.

Made of rubber, the mat is surrounded by a 5cm wide border. It is used to tell the player where to start the bowl.

Standing On The Mat.

At the moment of releasing the bowl or jack, at least one foot must remain on or above the mat.
