Different Types Of Bowls Games

Bowls Game Types - Singles Game

Picture #1 Two players each have four bowls which they deliver alternatively. The score is taken after each end (after all 8 bowls have been delivered).

Once an end is completed, the players roll back along the rink for the next end. The winner of one end bowls first in the next end; if the end is tied or void, the same player bowls first in the next end. The first player to score 21 points wins the game.

Bowls Game Types - Pairs Game

Two opposing players alternate until they have bowled 2, 3 or 4 bowls each, as previously decided.

Then their team-mates alternate until they have bowled the same number. A game lasts for 21 ends. The pair with the higher score wins.

Bowls Game Types - Triples Game

The opposing players play in pairs, bowling alternately. Each player delivers 2 or usually 3 bowls. A game lasts 18 ends, the trio with the highest score wins.

Bowls Game Types - Fours

This is the standard game of bowls that most clubs play in competition each week. Each of the four team-mates have special duties.

The first player (lead) places the mat, and delivers and centres the jack. The second player (second) keeps the scorecard, compares it with his opposite number after each end, and gives it to his skip at close of play.

The second player (second) keeps the scorecard, compares it with his opposite number after each end, and gives it to his skip at close of play.

The third player (third) may measure all disputed shots.

The fourth player (skip) has charge of the team. He directs his players and may settle disputes with the opposing skip. A game lasts for 21 ends. The team with the higher score wins.
