| Entry/Admission is absolutely free. Managed by Parks Victoria Size 1090ha One Tree Hill Region of Greater Bendigo National Park providing panoramic views of Bendigo and the surrounding bushland. Of great interest to enthusiasts are the colourful wildflower displays featuring wax flowers, orchids and wattles. Dog Walking (on leash) is permitted here! Perfect for a picnic away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Here, a panoramic view of regional Bendigo and the Mandurang Valley can be seen from the poppet head tower. History Following the discovery of gold in 1851 deep shafts were sunk to mine the gold bearing quartz reefs. The remains of One Tree Hill Pioneer Mine, which was sunk to a depth of 90m are 600m north-east of the lookout tower. One Tree Hill was extensively and repeatedly cut over generating large amounts of timber which was drawn from a 30km radius around Bendigo. It was used to raise steam which powered the quartz crushing stamp batteries to line shafts and for domestic use. Reserve Facilities Provisions for a picnic or BBQ in the park are provided, the toilets are located near the poppet head tower lookout, water is available in some areas. Reserve Features A lookout tower from which panoramic views of Bendigo and the surrounding bushland can be seen. Walking Tracks 65km of bicycle and walking tracks link the surrounding bushland, to the township of Bendigo. Duration we found that, it was easy to spend 2 - 4 hours exploring this reserve at leisurely pace.
